Masks and Vaccine

Let’s talk about masks and a vaccine today.
So I have heard multiple people tell me even in general conversation out on the streets that they would rather be shot, held down at gunpoint or thrown off a rooftop before they ever wear a mask or get a vaccine. I ask why and they say “if it’s my time it’s my time and I won’t be forced to do it and do you know what’s in those things? I don’t want to be like China and be forced to wear a mask”
Well there are some pretty disturbing things in those statements alone.

Firstly you’d rather die than save your own and another person’s life such as your family? This is also coming from people that are immune compromised. I get it, you’re afraid but personally I would be afraid more of the repercussions of getting this disease more than anything and also risking the lives of my family entirely where they could suffer because seeing someone suffer, as I have with cancer, is not a pretty thing.

I’ve recently also read an article or post that described being a cancer patient and a survey done as to why those patients who could live a normal life with it with medication or treatment, would forgo the treatments. It described that basically during the survey they discovered that people would rather risk feeling “better” and not be “confined” or not want to remember that they have the illness. They wanted to be “normal” or like everyone else, useful and capable of doing things.  We see that with the reopening of parks and beaches now that everyone else wants to forget about it, they want “normal” and they don’t want to wear mask etc as it’s a reminder to them that this is going on and that this is the new reality. The question remains, what will it take for you to realize, for you to really see, to do what you’re being told to do? What extremes do we need to take to show you that you could suffer and die!

Well the usage of masks are now being “suggested”, not law, not mandated. It’s been presented as a preventative measure, be it a medical or non medical to protect you and others from getting the virus as it is being spread by, saliva or droplets of mucus. So if you touch your nose, mouth or eyes it could spread. So that’s the why we use them and why it’s suggested. The protest of them is , unnecessary. People want to protest at places like Costco that have membership rules, ok well that’s your prerogative not to shop there and theirs not to let you in as they have rules that they can mandate. Other shops do not have membership status and legally cannot turn you away for not  wearing one though they can suggest you do and if you refuse you are risking others safety. They suggest wearing them in areas where you can’t entirely social distance like enclosed stores with narrower aisles.
Now that we’ve talked about the why and when, let’s talk about the how.  So there are types of masks and ways to wear them. The non medical are obviously for those of medical staff and it’s been recommended that if we were to make them or use fabric ones or non medical that they be lined. I’ve made some myself, crocheting them for friends and family and have lined them with double flannel or cotton. The fabric must be of a high thread count like quilter’s cotton. Wearing them they must cover your nose and mouth right to your chin. This does not mean under your nose or just above your chin to breathe etc. In fact it’s been said that those with medical conditions such as asthma and or anxiety or those needing oxygen not to wear them especially during the summer heated months as it will cause more complications. Hence why, again, it’s suggested. There are ways to shop such as online or to get someone who is capable to assist you if that’s possible.  If you need to see how to properly wear one here is a video on how to.

The effects of throwing them away versus reusable are something of a concern as well. Personally if you can get the reusable fabric ones where you can have one spare in your car and then wash after in hot water and soap when you get home later then it creates ten times less trash. We’re trying to not just save ourselves here; it’s wise to save the environment too!  So please throw out your gloves and masks in the proper disposable areas, trash cans! I am sick of seeing photos of parking lots, beaches, parks , trails and nature areas that are filled with trash! Those poor little animals don’t know what it is and will try to eat it and they get sick and we are killing them! Has no one watched the episode of Doctor Who where our planet becomes plastic??

Live safe, live clean and stay healthy!
