" It makes sense to have mannequins which show what the clothes would look like on a customer. If only this kind of thing could be done without it being a political statement one way or another.
For what it's worth, I did a quick search. The larger mannequins that people were saying 'condoned obesity' really were obese, XX sized male mannequins. At least, that's all I could find."
I must comment on this and I would have privately however I feel that it's something that I have to address publicly because there are others who feel this way too. First of all it has nothing to do with any political stand point! It has to do with health, in any nation for any person. In fact the only time it's a political issue is when, as per my last post, there is a debate on portion control and how things are being handled to control or change obesity. I for one agree that these should be displayed and that it encourages a better body image rather than being super thin which is what we normally see and those do encourage plastic surgery, unnecessary eating disorders and mental health disorders to be thin. Now body image I know is an issue even for myself and many of my friends who are either way too thin, or are in fact, obese. I believe you shouldn't be as heavy as say, those poor souls on the movie Wall-E but certainly if your body is built a certain way to carry that said weight and you are made to be that way, not that I'm saying and encouraging over eating or other unhealthy habits, but if you absolutely for health reasons have no control over your weight then yes we should be catering to you in the clothing and other departments. It makes sense.
Now to address the actual mannequins that were found by that friend. After doing my own research I found these articles, Article A and Article B (Reddit discussion). The first article is just a summary of what's going on really and the second is well... very disgusting if you ask me. Not the image, not the mannequin, no. The users, the people commenting in negativity and straight up abusive comments. It's bad enough that we make people who are thin or fat feel negative about themselves with these negative and abusive comments, bullying. Why do we have to make it worse when we are in fact trying to positively encourage them to be healthy mentally and fit into society and not be shunned and feel that they have to be an exact type. This is showing me that as a race, the human race, we are disgusting in our treatment of one another and our tolerance and acceptance is at an all time low! We hate each other and ourselves. I don't believe it "condones obesity".
Now I'm not a hypocrite and I'm not going to say that in North America we don't have a problem with obesity compared to hundreds of years past. However it's like hating people for their colour, gender or sexual orientation. What does it matter? You're a person and so why should you be hated unless you have done some atrocity such as murder, molestation etc. that is morally not right. "God" or what have you loves us all if one does exist and if you don't believe that then do you still not believe that we should still love each other and that in the words of Martin Luther King, we are all created equal, in some way or another.. in mind, in spirit? We are created different on the outside but does that mean that we are truly different on the inside? I do recall the tower of babel story, did they not have the same goal, to get to heaven but because of this God struck the tower down and disbanded them to not be able to understand one another, to be all different languages etc. and different parts of the earth, but are we still not all the same? We have the same goals, morals, wants, needs, we are still human!
We have a lot of health problems on the earth, cancer, other diseases etc. that have been brought about by the industrial and technological age and it would not surprise me if one day everything just shut down and we wouldn't know what to do with ourselves. We'd be lost and thrown back to the stone age for survival and we'd kill each other off until survival of the fittest just as mother nature wants. The earth is the master here. She will either destroy us if we don't destroy ourselves and once we're gone, I'm sure there will be some other new evolutionary species etc.
(Perhaps I've been watching too much X-Files etc. but seriously these people who created wrote that show and others could actually be right!).
Anyway that's my take... why can't we just all get along? (as per the lyrics of David Lee Murphy's song)
This is the post for now this week people... discussion welcomed but.. keep it professional and polite please. I do monitor all comments.
